Arbor Day Celebration

We celebrated Arbor Day on Friday, April 24, which is also designated as National Arbor Day. The first Arbor Day was observed in Nebraska on April 10, 1874 and has grown in popularity so that it is now celebrated by all 50 states and around the world. We continue this tradition with our event which took place on the grounds of Woodrow Wilson Library, which is on the corner of Glen Carlyn Drive and Knollwood Drive.

Bailey's Beautification Alliance, Bailey's Elementary School for the Arts and Sciences, and Woodrow Wilson Library put together a program that started with a parade of students carrying American flags and Arbor Day posters. The parade was followed by remarks from Bailey's Beautification Alliance, Jay McLain, Principal of Bailey's Elementary School for the Arts and Sciences, and student expressions of the meaning of Arbor Day. Bailey's School fourth grade chorus sang a number of songs.

Part of the celebration included the presentation of books about the environment from Bailey's Crossroads Rotary Club to Bailey's School and from Bailey's Beautification Alliance to Woodrow Wilson library.

We flew balloons, sang songs, and planted a magnolia tree which was donated by Bailey's Beautification Alliance. And the weather was beautiful.
